Drinks on the Eurodam: A Guide to Beverages and Bars

Lemonade is among the handful of beverages included in the Eurodam’s fare.

Lemonade is among the handful of beverages included in the Eurodam’s fare.

We didn't buy a Holland America "Beverage Package" on our Alaskan cruise aboard the MS Eurodam because:

  1. They're expensive. The "Signature" package costs $44.95 per person per day.

  2. Beverage packages have restrictions. For example, that same Signature Package is only eligible for drinks that cost $9.00 or less. This excludes most cocktails, spirits and many glasses of wine.

Instead, we bought drinks and bottles of wine à la carte. Our total bar tab (including an automatic 15% service charge) was $313. Here is an overview of the Eurodam's beverages and bars:

Free Drinks (i.e. Included in Fare)

  • Filtered water;

  • Coffee and tea;

  • Lemonade and iced-tea; and

  • Juice;

Bottled Water

The Eurodam sells packages of bottled water:

  • Evian Water (6 Bottles) - $24.00 ($27.60)

  • Evian Water (12 Bottles) - $42.00 ($48.30)

The 12-bottle package is the least expensive option on a per bottle basis. Still, it costs around 154% more than what a case of Evian would cost in a supermarket.

Speciality Coffees

Espresso-based drinks (like cappuccino) are available for an extra charge in the Explorations Cafe and in the dining room.

Minibar

Eurodam staterooms have a minibar. Here is a price list (including the final price after the automatic 15% service charge on beverages is applied).

  • Miniature Liquors - $5.50 ($6.33)

  • Heineken - $7.00 ($8.05)

  • Evian Water (1-Liter) - $5.50 ($6.33)

  • Perrier Water - $3.25 ($3.74)

  • Soft Drinks (Soda) - $2.50 ($2.88)

  • Red Bull - $5.00 ($5.75)

  • Mondavi Chardonnay (375ml) - $19.50 ($22.43)

Bars on the MS Eurodam

B.B. King's Blues Club is a nice place to have a drink and watch a show.

The Eurodam has eight bars. Here is a quick overview of each:

  • Tamarind Bar (Deck 11) - Excellent view; romantic decor

  • Crow's Nest Bar (Deck 11) - Excellent view; good bar snacks

  • Sea View Bar (Deck 9) - Doubles as designated smoking area; near pizzeria

  • Lido Bar (Deck 9) - Noisy; located near the indoor pool

  • Ocean Bar (Deck 3) - Well appointed; usually quiet

  • Gallery Bar (Deck 2) - Spacious; connected to casino

  • Pinnacle Bar (Deck 2) - Beautifully appointed; connected to atrium

  • B.B. King's Blues Club (Deck 2) - Live entertainment; friendly bartenders

Beer

Beers on the Eurodam sell for around $7.50 per bottle ($8.63 after service charge), which is around a 420% markup over supermarket prices. Buckets of beer are available at a discount.

There are also flights of beer brewed by the Juneau-based Alaska Brewing Company.

Wine List

The Eurodam's wine list is curated by James Suckling, a notable wine critic.

Buying wine by the bottle is around 22% cheaper than ordering the same amount of wine by the glass. If a passenger doesn't finish a bottle, the sommelier corks and tags the bottle, then makes it available upon request. It's a nice service (that we didn't require).

The wine list's cheapest bottles sell for $35 ($40.25 after service charge), which is around 300% more expensive than a liquor store would charge for wines like Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling and Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot.

We ordered drinks à la carte aboard the Eurodam. The dining room served excellent cocktails.

Liquor and Spirits (Best Value)

Various spirits and liquors are available aboard the Eurodam. These (2-ounce) measured pours aren't a bad deal. For example, a glass of Hennessy V.S. cognac costs $8.00 ($9.20 after service charge). This is around a 183% markup over liquor store prices.

Cocktails (Best Value)

The Eurodam has a cocktail menu created by Dale DeGroff. Cocktails cost around $10 on average (around $11.50 with service charge), but each bar has its own drink specials and happy hour deals.

The drinks we ordered in the dining room were consistently great. Cocktails in the Crow's Nest lounge were always good, and sometimes very good. The only bad experience we had was at the Lido Bar, where a bartender played coy after substituting an expensive spirit with a cheap one.

Outside Beverage and Alcohol Policy

Each guest aged 21 years or older may bring one bottle of wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) onboard in carry-on luggage at the beginning of the voyage. There is no corkage fee if this bottle is consumed in the stateroom. An $18.00 corkage fee is charged for each additional bottle, regardless of where it is consumed. To avoid this corkage fee, guests can choose to have these bottles stored and returned on the last evening of the voyage.

Guests may not bring beer, boxed wine, or other liquors and spirits onboard. Bottled water, soda and other non-alcoholic beverages may be brought on board in carry-on luggage during embarkation (but not while in port).
