Our family took a 7-day cruise to Alaska aboard the MS Eurodam. We loved the Alaskan itinerary, but we had mixed feelings about the cruise itself. Here are some facts about the ship to help you decide if a cruise aboard the Eurodam is worth it for your family.

What is Holland America's policy on pregnant passengers and babies?

According to the Holland America cruise contract, "Guests who will enter the 24th week of pregnancy by the last day of the Cruise agree not to book the Cruise or to board the vessel." Additionally, "The minimum Guest age to sail is 6 months of age at the time of embarkation in order to sail on Alaska, Canada/New England, Caribbean, Europe, and Mexico cruises."

What is Holland America's tipping policy?

Holland America automatically charges a hotel service charge of $14.50 per guest per day for stateroom guests and $16.00 per guest per day for suite guests. Passengers can speak with Guest Services to adjust this automatic gratuity up or down. 

A 15% service charge is automatically added to all beverage purchases.

Is there childcare aboard the Eurodam?

Yes, Holland America's "Club HAL"  is for children aged 3 years and older. Children must be fully toilet-trained to attend. Club HAL staff are not permitted to store or administer medication; children requiring special care must have a parent present in the club.

What is the wristband policy on the Eurodam?

All children ages 13 and under must wear a Lifeboat Assembly Station wristband for the duration of the cruise.

Is the tap water on the Eurodam safe to drink?

Yes, the tap water aboard the Eurodam is filtered.

What is the drinking age aboard the Eurodam?

Guests aboard the Eurodam must be 21 years of age or older to purchase or consume alcohol.

What is Holland America's beverage and alcohol policy?

Each guest aged 21 years or older may bring one bottle of wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) onboard in carry-on luggage at the beginning of the voyage. There is no corkage fee if this bottle is consumed in the stateroom. An $18.00 corkage fee is charged for each additional bottle, regardless of where it is consumed. To avoid this corkage fee, guests can choose to have these bottles stored and returned on the last evening of the voyage. 

Guests may not bring beer, boxed wine, or other liquors and spirits onboard. Bottled water, soda and other non-alcoholic beverages may be brought on board in carry-on luggage during embarkation.

What is the Eurodam's smoking policy?

All staterooms, suites and balconies are non-smoking. Guests who violate this policy will be charged a $250 per day cleaning fee. There is a designated outdoor smoking area near the Sea View Bar.

How old must guests be to gamble in the casino?

Guests aboard the Eurodam must be 18 years of age or older to gamble in the casino.

How does Holland America prevent norovirus?

Holland America, like all cruise lines, is susceptible to norovirus outbreaks. Thankfully, the Eurodam has one of the best sanitation histories of any ship, according to the CDC

The Eurodam's chief medical officer provides each stateroom with recommendations for preventing the spread of illness while on board.

What is the dress code aboard the Eurodam?

On Gala Nights, men are required to wear collared shirts and slacks in fine-dining restaurants; women are required to wear elegant dresses, skirts or slacks. (These restrictions do not apply to casual dining restaurants.)

On all other evenings, smart casual attire is appropriate. Shorts, beachwear, distressed jeans and men’s tank tops are not permitted in fine dining restaurants.

Are there baggage restrictions on the Eurodam?

No, Holland America does not impose baggage restrictions.

How does the Eurodam administer to guests with disabilities?

Are pets allowed aboard the Eurodam?

Animals and pets are not allowed onboard, except for qualified service animals for guests with disabilities. Guests who are planning to bring a service animal must call Holland America's Access & Compliance Department at 1-800-547-8493. Additionally, health certificate documentation is required in ports of call.

Does the Eurodam offer religious services?

Catholic Mass is offered daily, an interdenominational service is conducted each Sunday, and a Shabbat gathering is held each Friday.
